Louvin, Charlie - The Longest Train

As half of the Louvin Brothers, Charlie Louvin (born Charlie Elzer Loudermilk, July 7, 1927) was one of the most influential musicians of the '40s and '50s; the Louvins defined close harmony duet singing for several generations of country fans. The 1996 release “Longest Train” is an album designed for fans who became interested in Charlie Louvin and the Louvin Brothers through the music of Gram Parsons and the Byrds. The album features latter-day recordings of signature Louvin songs like »The Christian Life« and »In the Pines,« all songs that country-rockers and rockers have covered. Consequently, it's not a bad way to learn about the Louvins, and a stellar cast of younger musicians, including Barry & Holly Tashian, Rosie Flores, Julian Dawson, Jim Lauderdale, Vince Santoro, Steuart Smith, Katy Moffatt and many more make this affair a wonderful listen throughout.
