16. mars er det klart for en Willie Nelson-utgivelse av et spesielt slag. »Naked Willie« (RCA/ Legacy) er vintage Willie-musikk, doktorert.
Her er litt bakgrunnsinfo om plata:
Willie and his longtime harmonica player Mickey Raphael were granted permission to mine the RCA archives of Willie’s 1960’s recordings for this set. That was a time when Chet ruled with an iron hand and oversaw the Nashville Country Machine for RCA. In those times Willie, like Elvis, Bare, Waylon and others would record the songs with their bands or studio musicians. Then Chet would have strings, singers and who knows what else added. You couldn’t argue with the monetary and chart results, but in lots of instances the artists were less than thrilled. All of that would change in the seventies, but we’re still in the sixties with these sides. These seventeen cuts have been stripped of the strings and extraneous backing to reveal Willie sounding not unlike he does today. The real draw here though is that they didn’t just eliminate the strings and head back to the bus to roll a few. Instead they took away the backing and then remixed what was left to balance out the selections and give them new life. Fans of his “Red Headed Stranger” sound will be excited about these cuts. Even better, it’s not just his hits, but deep catalog selections that show a different side than you might be used to hearing.
