Though it’s her first for the premiere blues/roots/world label, Bury Him marks her 6th CD overall. Magness received her first nod from the WC Handy Awards - the blues equivalent to the Grammys - where she was this year nominated for »Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist.«

The 13-track Bury Him was recorded and mixed at Dusty Wakeman’s famed Mad Dog Studios in Burbank, Calif. which is home to countless luminaries like Dwight Yoakam, Lucinda Williams and Buck Owens. Featuring guest musicians Colin Linden, Stephen Hodges and Richard Bell, with longtime Magness collaborator Jeff Turmes, the collection is an aural excursion of roots music that combines the fiery singer’s robust influences. From vintage Motor City R&B (»One More Heartache«), to the romantic soul of Sam Cooke (»Lost & Looking« and the plaintive folk of »A Woman Knows« Magness crosses boundaries with her unabashed style and dynamic vocal range. The Los-Angeles based, Michigan raised Magness is the recipient of the B.B. King Award for Musical Excellence, the Jim Croce Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rhythm & Blues, and Arizona’s New Times awarded her with the Critic’s Choice honor for Blues Band of the Year. She has performed at some of the most prestigious blues festivals around the world including King Biscuit, Belgium Rhythm & Blues, and Mississippi Valley Blues Fest. Magness also starred in the Tony-nominated Broadway production »It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues« at the David Geffen Theater in Los Angeles.
