Wopat, Tom - Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen: Dissertation of the State of Bliss

Tom Wopat is back just in time for Harold Arlen’s 100th birthday celebration in February 2005. His brand new CD, Tom Wopat Sings Harold Arlen: Dissertation of the State of Bliss, is a spectacular tribute to one of the 20th Century’s greatest composers. Produced by Ben Sidran and featuring some of jazz music’s most acclaimed arrangers and musicians, including Gil Goldstein, Mike Manieri, Marc Johnson and Sam Arlen, Wopat leaves no doubt as to why he’s now one of Broadway’s most acclaimed vocalists. Having recently toured the country as Billy Flynn in Chicago: The Musical, as well as, being nominated for a Tony Award for his role as Frank Butler in Annie Get Your Gun, Wopat is experiencing a career renaissance. Old fans who remember him as Luke Duke in the ‘70s smash television show, Dukes of Hazard, are discovering a brand new dimension of his prolific talents, while new fans unaware of Wopat’s previous successes are being drawn to his magnificent vocal abilities that are reminiscent of the great vocal crooners of the ‘40s and ‘50s. On Dissertation, Wopat interprets classics such as “Over The Rainbow,» “Accentuate The Positive« and “That Old Black Magic,” delivering one of a kind versions that not only sparkle with a Broadway sheen, but swing with a jazz nuance. This is a set that’s sure to dazzle fans, both old and new, while continuing to establish Wopat’s reputation as one of the great standards singers in the world today.
