Smith, Darden - Sunflower

Coming of age in the musical hotbed of Austin, TX, Darden Smith developed his craft as a singer-songwriter while in the company of Nanci Griffith, Shawn Colvin, Townes Van Zandt, Joe Ely, and Lyle Lovett. Sunflower is a personal document of the little and big revelations that have taken Darden through numerous crossroads and allowed him to make his most fully realized and intimate work to date. Co-produced by Darden and Stewart Lerman, and featuring guest appearances by Kim Richey and Patty Griffin, the new work combines the introspective singer songwriter with ambient touches recalling the reflective expansiveness of U2's The Joshua Tree and Mark Knopfler's solo work. This album, his first since 1996, features the hits »After All this Time«, »Satellite« and »Perfect Moment«.

»The fact is, I am a Texas singer songwriter, in the music that I play and compose. Though my work may not fit the exact definition of the idiom, it defines who I am. When it all boils down, I am a folk singer. Though I use a lot of pop melodies and song structure, it's all about storytelling. I look at all of my material, regardless of what genre I'm in, as folk songs with other arrangements.«
