Andersen, Eric - Memory Of The Future
MEMORY of the FUTURE is a work of many pieces; it is like a quilt created by combining myriad small scraps of well worn fabric into a dazzling entirety. Initiated in 1990, in-between work on Ghosts Upon the Road and the Danko Fjeld Andersen recording, this album has been a work-in-progress for eight years. Recorded in New York, Los Angeles, and Oslo, the album brings together numerous talents into a complex yet unified whole.
The cast of supporting musicians is superb. Joining Andersen on MEMORY of the FUTURE are co- producer Howie Epstein; Benmont Trench on keyboards; Dylan-bassist Tony Garnier; Richard Thompson; Jonas Fjeld; Rick Danko and Garth Hudson (from THE BAND); saxophonist and keyboardist Robert Aaron; and vocalists Eleanor Mills, Unni Askeland and Sari Andersen. A temporal and spatial experiment, the songs were recorded in layers, with successive takes being overdubbed upon the original vocal and guitar tracks laid down by Eric. The musicians never traveled, only the music did. Co-producer Ingar Helgesen, who was also sound engineer on the Danko Fjeld Andersen albums, had the daunting task of assembling all the sound elements into one cohesive unit. Most would agree that with MEMORY of the FUTURE he has met with exemplary success.
