Poor Dog Project
(Rootsy Music)
Price: 99 SEK
Krantz will soon be releasing his new album, entitled A Poor Dog’s Summer. And you won’t have to wait further than 13th September for the new single: Summer.
The music is based on a folk/world music tradition. For this album, Krantz has focused on his resonator guitar, as opposed to earlier recordings where the pedal steel guitar took center stage.
Krantz has built a vibrant and big soundscape in his home studio, bringing to mind the world of film music with influences such as Luis Bonfa and Ennio Morricone. You will find vibes of Cuban, Irish and American folk and world music.
“Some of the compositions were written in hotel rooms across Europe when I was out touring. I like to focus on composing when I’m traveling. I’ve always been inspired by different environments and places”, says Krantz who is rated by reviewers and audiences alike as one of Sweden’s most distinguished and original guitarists.
Krantz has three guest artists on the album: Louise Hoffsten on harmonica and vocals on four tracks, Robert Englund on trumpet on two tracks, and Anders Olsson on drums and percussion on three tracks. To top it off, the he is joined by the football supporter choir “Kirkören” on the song Underdogs.
Richard Krantz was born and raised in Gothenburg but has since then made Stockholm his home. He is one of Sweden’s foremost pedal steel guitarists with three earlier albums to his name: Siberia, Euphoria and Old School. On his fourth album, he has switched instrument and experiments with new soundscapes with his resonator guitar.
Krantz was awarded Guitarpeople’ Prize in the category “Up and Coming” in 2012, received at a ceremony at Rival in Stockholm on 30th September, for bringing guitar music to new contexts with atmospheric and unique compositions and his original instrumental playing style.
