It’s finally here, the second album from Swedish Lowbird Highbird. And it is a brilliant follow up to the acclaimed debut album “November Moving In” from April 2016.
The recording of the self titled second album started already two years ago in Los Angeles when the band recorded four songs in EMP Studios in North Hollywood. The recordings were engineered by Lynne Earle, who previously worked with artists like KD Lang, Booker T. Jones, Wayne Shorter and Diana Reeves, Lizz Wright, JD Souther and Billy Childs.
Once the LA sessions were done, Lowbird Highbird went back to Sweden to write more songs, go on tour and to relocate from Piteå in the very north to Stockholm. And in the spare moments they continued recording tracks for this album. It took a while, but they all agreed that they had to get it right rather than get something out in a hurry. So, two years after the initial recordings were done, the album is ready for release.
Lowbird Highbird had their unique sound in place already from the very beginning. Their first album sounded like a work of a mature, road tested band, but Lowbird Highbird was former only a year before the release. This time around, the Lowbird Highbird sound is pretty much intact, but now we can actually talk about a mature, road tested band. All the familiar ingredients from the first album are still here, but everything is just a little bit better than last time. Better songs, almost all of them written by the great Pedal and Lap Steel player Theo Stocks; a super tight band and the even more confident vocalist Anna Svensson Rova.
