For various reasons we threw a big party in april 2007. The original Marshmuggers/Greedbird line-up was on stage! You could call it an “approximately 20 years celebration”.

Well, anyway, it went off successfully & was followed by a couple of gigs in autumn the same year. Actually, we had a really good time. Old mates coming together again!

True Lies have always been riding high on good song material courtesy the writing of Michael and Anders. By now, as it turned out, Michael had about 40 songs in his sleeve and Anders was ready to give him a run from the other ringside. We decide to spend the money from the gigs to record a few of them…

In Klågerup, just 20 km outside our hometown, Malmoe, Karl Axel ”Acke” Bengtsson rules in a comfortable and creative environment: Varispeed studios.

We knew his background and he has recorded/produced some stuff which we really like. We had heard about his hospitality, so we decided to give it a try.

From the beginning it was some kind of a test, both for us, and Acke. “Let´s record a couple of songs & see how it works out...”

Of course, we had great expectations and hope for a good time… These were fulfilled beyond imagination...
Actually we lived out there for periods, mostly weekends. Quite a few folks joined in:

Mats Bengtsson, piano, Hammond and more, Åsa Gjerstad, cello, Filip Runesson, violins, Ulf Fagerberg, saxophone, Niklas Fredin, french horn and trumpet, Michaels daughter Wilma provided wonderful background vocals and young Max Adolfsson teamed up with us to gain experience as recording studio guitarist.

Acke co-arranged some of the songs, produced together with the band and mixed.

He was a great stimulator. He played guitar a little, screamed and, not with a ladder but.., chased us through the studio-rooms. Kind of like Guy Stevens did in the making of “London Calling”. Well, we all survived and here we are with 16 new songs recorded…

Most of them are on the forthcoming album.

The new album,“Social D-day”, will be released on the Rootsy label, 2010-04-21.

We’re very pleased with it, and hopefully you’ll agree with the torn-out cliché: ”the best we’ve ever done, so far…….”
